Chimney Flashing Repair in West Michigan

The #1 source of roof leaks isn't the roof — it's the chimney flashing. We do it right.

If your roof is leaking, the chimney is the most likely culprit. Most chimney leaks come from improper flashing — usually a single piece of bent metal caulked against the brick instead of a proper step-flashing system woven into the shingles and tied into a counter-flashing cut into the mortar joints.

We install chimney flashing the way it's meant to be done: stepped under each shingle course, with a separate counter-flashing tucked into reglet cuts in the mortar. For wider chimneys on the up-slope side of a roof, we'll add a cricket — a small peaked diverter that splits water around the chimney instead of letting it pool against the back.

Done correctly once, this work lasts as long as your roof.

Our approach

What's included

Step flashing

Individual L-shaped pieces woven under each shingle course — the only way to do it right.

Counter flashing

Cut into the mortar joints with a reglet, sealed with quality urethane sealant.

Crickets when needed

On wider chimneys, a cricket diverts water around the chimney instead of letting it pool.

Frequently asked

Chimney Flashing questions

Almost always because the original flashing was a 'caulk-and-pray' job rather than proper stepped and counter-flashing.
